“So I set up Well Polished, which ‘introduces’
clients to vetted, insured cleaners and provides
holiday and sickness cover when the client’s usual
cleaner is away.
“Within a week of delivering the first batch of
leaflets we were inundated with enquiries and from
there the business grew rapidly.”
Sandra knew very early on that she wanted to
franchise the business and spoke to FDS North
director Tony Urwin in the early stages of the
company’s development.
“Tony was a great source of information on
franchising from the very beginning but he
recommended we establish the business before we look
at the franchise route,” she said.
“When I went back to him a couple of years later he
was able to help us straight away.
“Developing a franchise uses a completely different
set of skills from those of setting up a business
but Tony was able to take us through every step of
the process.
“Pulling together the franchise manual would have
taken us years, but Tony and his team managed to do
it in a matter of months.
“Developing the franchise operation has been worth
every penny, especially as it has helped us improve
our core business by putting in place a format and
structure which will help us grow nationally.”
The decision to invest in franchising is already
bearing fruit for Well Polished, as former cleaner
Sue Day has already signed up as the company’s first
franchisee.
Sue’s Liverpool franchise went live on October 1,
2007 and she is already developing her client list.
FDS director Tony Urwin said Sandra and husband
David, who has now joined the business, had tapped
into the ‘cash rich, time poor’ lifestyle trend of
recent years.
“Well Polished gives the client what they want, a
reliable cleaning service with cleaners who are
insured and vetted, while paying cleaners an
attractive rate for their work,” he said.
“I am confident the
franchise network will continue to grow and develop
and I am delighted we have been able to work with
David and Sandra.”
