Franchising 'not get rich quick option'

North West businesses looking to get rich quick should avoid franchising, according to the region’s leading franchising specialist.

Franchising Development Services North (FDS North) managing director Tony Urwin will issue the warning at a British Franchising Association (BFA) event in Manchester.

The seminar, on September 19, will outline the pros and cons of franchising as a route for expansion for companies in the region which are keen to grow.

Too many potential franchisors assume that franchisees will be a cash cow and fail to understand the commitment required, according to guest speaker Tony.

“It is a common misconception that businesses can expand at no cost through franchising and will make a great deal of money without making any investment,” he said.

“These businesses and their unlucky franchisees are heading for failure.

“But this mistake is easily avoided if businesses research the process and recognise they must commit time and money to develop the company through franchising.”

The BFA one day seminar will cover key areas including what franchising is, what can be successfully franchised, how to raise funds for franchising and whether franchising is right for your business.

“This event should be the first point of call for any business considering becoming a franchisor,” said Tony.

“There will be people with hands-on experience of the franchising process available throughout the day to share their expertise and give practical, useful advice on how to take the next steps.”

The speakers will also include a BFA representative, a BFA franchisor and franchisee, who will all share their expertise and experience of franchising.
